While this time of year tends to get chaotic, it’s important to remember how crucial student attendance is. Chronic absenteeism is a serious problem in South Dakota - a problem SFSD is committed to improving. Missing just two days a month can hurt a student’s grades and increase their chance of dropping out. Make sure your student is on the path to a bright future – and that starts in the classroom!

Last week, Mr. Thomas' computer classes got to check out the National Guard ESports Trailer, and play some games. The traveling trailer supports the U.S. Army esports initiative, and is designed to boost recruiting and retention efforts and connect with the public.





Today, students taking Graphic Design hosted a Comic Con in the JHS Library! Students created a variety of pop culture themed booths to showcase their design skills.

Join us Saturday for dinner and a show! The 2nd annual JHS Band Chicken Dinner will be held in the JHS Commons at 5:30. Dinner tickets are $15 and will be available through the JHS Band office until Thursday. The Indoor show will start at 7pm. You won't want to miss this event!


This week, students in Ms. Gregg's Photo I class have been experimenting with light and shutter speed.



Don't forget, parent-teacher conferences will be held Monday (JHS Commons) and Tuesday (Virtual) from 4-7:30pm. There will also be informational meetings Monday night for the Build Dakota Scholarship for SD Technical Colleges at 5:30pm, and FASFA/Financial Aid at 6pm.


Come cheer on the Cavaliers Thursday night as they face the Washington Warriors in the first round of playoffs! The Cavs will be the home team, and gates open at 3:30pm. Reminder: Tickets are required for this game, no passes will be accepted. Adults $7, Students $5. Go Cavs Go!


On Friday, students in Mrs. Beck's AP Physics class calculated the mass of her car. They pushed the car and measured force using a bathroom scale, and then measured velocity by dropping bean bags and measuring the distance between them. Newton's 2nd law in action!




Attention Junior and Senior students and parents! During parent teacher conferences on Monday October, 24 there will be a presentation about post-secondary school financial aid. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about FAFSA and other financial aid opportunities.


Opening Thursday in the JHS Black Box Theatre, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). Tickets will be sold at the door. Come check out this great show!


Yesterday, the JHS Library was filled with 225 students committed to building new friendships during the first gathering this year of Best Buddies. Best Buddies is an organization that helps to build friendships and promote the power of inclusion with students of all abilities!

Mrs. Monahan's yearbook students have been hard at work creating delicious layouts. Students used their favorite snack foods to practice designing spreads while starting to plan out the 2023 book.





Chastity Erickson and Jennifer McKellep are some of the first faces you’ll see when entering Jefferson. This week, they were recognized by Superintendent Stavem and Principal Conrad for their hard work and dedication to JHS Staff and Students by being honored as Staff All-Stars.


Multi-faceted artist, Dr. Charles Barrett visited JHS on Wednesday. Dr. Barrett is a psychologist, teacher, writer, musician who thinks deeply about the issues facing people. During his visit, he was able to share an inspiring message about the importance of education.
