Excuse us while we brag for a minute… Our Superintendent is pretty talented! Dr. Jane Stavem is an accomplished pianist, vocalist, trumpet player, French horn player, percussionist, xylophone player… oh, and she also plays harmonica! 😉 These talents, along with her deep love for all things Fine Arts, earned her the honor of Parade Marshal for Festival of Bands 2022! We are proud to be lead by someone who values the role extracurriculars play in “preparing each student to succeed in a changing world!”

Updated breakfast and lunch pricing, how to re-apply for free and reduced meals, who gets low fund balance notifications, and an easy and delicious snack mix recipe to try at home. It's all in the October edition of the "What's the Scoop" newsletter from our Child Nutrition Services!

Our second ever King and Queen were crowned on Monday night. Congratulations to King Zackary Diaz, and Queen Aniya Butler! Thank you to our entire court for representing Jefferson during Homecoming Week.

Yesterday, General Foods teacher, Suzy Ries, received the 2022 Creative Solutions in Education Grant from Architecture Incorporated! Mrs. Ries received $2,952 to allow Jefferson students to grow, harvest, utilize, and share produce grown in classroom hydroponic gardens.

This week, Mr. Hirsch's Wood Tech I students have been practicing their skills in the shop by cutting and sanding door stops.

Today, groups in Mrs. Ries' General Foods class setup unsafe and unsanitary kitchen scenarios to highlight kitchen safety. Their classmates then viewed each scenario and identified the safety and sanitation violations, and how to correct them.

Missing work? Need help on your homework? We'd love to see you at Saturday Open Study this Saturday from 9am to 12pm. Questions? Contact Mr. Grove or Ms. Werner.

Last Friday, students taking AP Environmental Science and AP Language Arts/Composition took a joint field trip to Family Park to research the biodiversity of the area, and identify the available park services to aid them in projects they are working on.

Ms. Werner's biology students are learning about homeostasis and how the human body can maintain internal conditions despite changing external conditions. They completed a heart lab where they did different levels of exercise and measured how that affected their heart rates!

Parenting is hard. So is growing up! Join SFSD and Avera experts as we team up virtually on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6pm for topics that strengthen families.

Thank you to everyone who donated to Feeding SD on behalf of the Cavaliers for the President's Bowl Food Drive! The JHS community earned first place with their donation of 1,553lbs of food. Thank you to Scheels for sponsoring the drive!

Be sure to cheer on Jefferson at the Presidents Bowl tonight, Saturday September 10th! The Cavaliers will face the Lincoln Patriots at 7pm.

Attention students attending the Presidents Bowl Game! See the diagram to know where to gather before tomorrow's game.

A presidential dignitary was spotted on school grounds today! Help this Founding Father cheer on the Cavaliers to victory at tomorrow's President's Bowl game versus Lincoln. Kickoff is at 7pm.

Students in Mrs. Bonham's Single Survival class were challenged to work together in teams to build the tallest tower in 20 minutes out of a box of spaghetti and mini marshmallows. Students then discussed their ability to work together and their strengths and weaknesses.

This morning, Kevin Gansz, Curator for Education for the Siouxland Heritage Museums and Civil War Reenactor spoke to US History students about the life of a Civil War soldier.

Last chance to help JHS tackle hunger! Booster Club Co-President Tony Erickson will be collecting donations outside Jefferson until 8pm tonight! Look for the JHS flag. Donations can also be dropped off at Scheels until closing!
