Friday, December 23 (the day before Winter Break) is a 2-hour early dismissal. To help us plan for that day, we’re asking families who already know their student will NOT be attending to please let the office know as soon as possible.

As we wrap up this year’s Drive Out Hunger food drive, we couldn’t be more proud of our Edison community! For the past week, Student Council has led an incredible effort, and our students showed up in a BIG way. The grade-level competition was fierce, but in the end, 7th grade claimed the victory! Here’s what we accomplished together: • 1,331 items staying at Edison to help build and sustain our new Edison Backpack Program. • 597 items donated directly to Feeding South Dakota. • $1,033 raised to support both programs. Thank you to every student, family, and staff member who contributed. Your generosity will make a real and lasting impact for our Edison families and our community. (Photos incoming… including some very committed turkey principals!)

UPDATE: The Drive Out Hunger challenge is HEATING UP! 🐾🔥 6th grade is currently in the lead… but there is still plenty of time for a comeback! And guess what? We’ve upped the stakes. Our NEW goal is 10,000 items — and if we hit it, the winning grade level earns a special treat during Tech Time AND our amazing principals will dress up as turkeys. Yes… TURKEYS. 🦃 Let’s push to the finish line and show what the Edison community can do!

Drive Out Hunger: Edison Food Collection Challenge!

Edison Student Council is excited to launch our food drive to create the Edison Backpack Program, a new, on-site resource for Edison families which will also supplement the existing Feeding South Dakota Backpack Program. In addition, donated items and funds will help support Feeding South Dakota as a whole.
From November 17–25, we’re collecting non-perishable, ready-to-eat items to stock our new Edison Backpack Program and to give back to families across our community. And yes… it’s a grade-level competition!
🏆 Grade Level Challenge
• Each grade is challenged to bring in 300 items.
• Grade with the most items = Tech Time during 9th period on Nov. 25
• If we reach 1,000 total items = ALL grades get Tech Time during 9th period
• If we reach 1,200 total items = Tech Time for all PLUS a special surprise!
🍎 High-Need Items (count as 3 items each!)
• Mac & cheese cups
• Ramen
• Canned pasta (SpaghettiOs, ravioli, etc.)
• Crackers
• Granola bars
• Cereal cups
• Peanut butter
• Fruit cups
• Snack packs
💵 Cash donations accepted!
Every $1 = 10 items toward your grade’s total.

Mark you calendars! Our Glow School Spotlight is Friday, November 21st.

Our science department joined in on a little middle school humor today — proudly sporting shirts with the periodic symbols for Carbon and Nitrogen… otherwise known as 6–7. You know what they say — if you can’t beat them, join them!

Meanwhile, Mr. Soper’s classes explored a spooky sublimation lab that brought science to life in all the best ways.

Just another example of our teachers finding creative ways to connect, engage, and make learning memorable.

🎉 We’ve been loving all the school spirit this week — our students have really shown their Edison pride! Tomorrow we wrap up Spirit Week with Pajama Day 💤 Just a quick reminder: Halloween costumes and masks are not permitted at school tomorrow. Let’s finish the week strong and cozy!

Lost & Found Reminder

The seasons are changing, and that means jackets, water bottles, and sweatshirts are starting to pile up! Our Lost & Found is located right inside the bus doors near the art room — and it’s already filling up.

Please remind students to check it frequently for any missing items. If they can’t find what they’re looking for, they can always ask in the office for help.

You’d be surprised how many water bottles, hoodies, and lunch boxes we collect! Let’s help get those items back to their owners.

Today was Day 1 of Spirit Week, and our CATS are showing their Edison pride!
We loved seeing all the creative outfits and school spirit in the halls today!

This week, Student Council is hosting themed dress-up days—check out the image to see what’s coming next!

Teachers will also be handing out “CATS Caught in the Spirit” tickets to students showing off their Edison energy.

🎉 Congratulations to our October Students of the Month! 🎉 These amazing students were nominated by their teams for showing leadership, kindness, and living the Edison DREAM We’re so proud of their positive impact and the example they set for their peers. Keep up the awesome work, CATS!

Last week, some of our awesome students helped deliver DREAM awards to recognize CATS who were Driven and Motivated!

Students who were Driven with perfect attendance last month and those who were Motivated with zero tardies each earned a DREAM award, a small treat, and were entered into a drawing for some fun prizes! 🎉

We’re so proud of our CATS for showing what it means to live the Edison DREAM — Driven, Respectful, Excellent, Act Responsibly, and Motivated. Keep up the great work — we can’t wait to celebrate even more DREAM awards in the months ahead!

Just a reminder — audition workshops for the school musical begin Monday, October 20th from 4:00–4:45 PM.
These sessions are a great opportunity for students to prepare, build confidence, and connect with fellow performers before auditions begin! 🎤🎭

On Monday, our Očéti Šakówiŋ Owáuŋspe Club and students celebrated Native American Day in the downtown parade! They walked with our Edison float, passed out candy, and shared smiles with the Sioux Falls community — a beautiful way to show independence, generosity, and belonging.

Last week, Edison Theater classes visited Augustana University for an exciting behind-the-scenes look at collegiate theater. Students explored the theater department, participated in interactive workshops, and observed college actors performing a scene from a recent production. It was a memorable learning experience for all!
