Our All City 5th graders had a chance to attend their first Starbase day! DoD STARBASE is a premier educational program, sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. At DoD STARBASE students participate in challenging “hands-on, minds-on” activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). They interact with military personnel to explore careers and observe STEM applications in the “real world.” The program provides students with 25 hours of stimulating experiences at National Guard, Marine, Air Force Reserve, Army, and Air Force bases across the nation.
DoD STARBASE’s primary focus is the program for fifth graders. The goal is to motivate them to explore STEM opportunities as they continue their education. The academies serve students that are historically under represented in STEM. Students who live in inner cities or rural locations, those who are socio-economically disadvantaged, low in academic performance, or have a disability are in the target group. The program encourages students to set goals and achieve them.

Here are our High Flying Soaring Eagles for this week! Congrats on being responsible, respectful, and safe! Keep up the good work!

It’s coding week during Family time!! Kids get the opportunity to code with Ozobots by creating a path it can follow and adding a code to make their robot spin, go fast, snail speed, or turn! So cool! They also get to do Osmo Coding and Coding Jam! They use Osmo tiles to get their character to move across the screen! Way fun! The also get to work with a friend to do different coding activities online together to create music or avatars! What a great experience this is for all of them! We might have some future professional coders among us!!

Today marks the 23rd Annual Lights On Afterschool event! Launched over 20 years ago, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families, and communities.
In honor of this event, Kids Inc. staff at all locations will be hosting celebrations throughout the next two weeks for students and families to participate in. Activities include talent shows, cookie decorating, pumpkin paintings, dance parties, art shows, scavenger hunts, and carnivals! These events are meant to bring awareness to the importance of quality after-school programs for kids.
Please help us say thank you to our Kids Inc. staff who play a MAJOR role in so many of our students' education journeys. We are incredibly thankful for each and every one of them for their dedication to the District and our students!

Twice a year during conference week, All City hosts a Book Fair where families can purchase books for their children or the classrooms! Each time someone purchases a book, we receive money to get free books for our classrooms! Thank you to Celeste Fergen for organizing this each time! THANK YOU families for your generous support to the Book Fair! The kids love the new books that were donated!

Ms. Becker is reviving an old tradition! For years, ACE families would donate a book to the school library in honor of their child’s birthday. This year, Ms. Becker is donating the book Creepy Crayon in honor of her 35th birthday to kick off this new/old tradition! If you are interested, Ms. Becker will have a list of wanted/needed books you can choose from to donate in honor of your child’s birthday. Celebrate birthday joy with Jane Addams readers! Email Ms. Becker with any questions: Sarah.Becker@k12.sd.us

Tonight is the night for our Pizza Ranch Fundraiser! It is from 5-8! Thanks for the support!

Our first Swimming Friday was back on October 7 and the kids had a blast!!!! All K-5 students have an opportunity once a month to go swimming at Embe downtown! Students get to swim with two classes at a time (K-1, 4-5, and 2-3). It is such a great way to build friendships and get some extra exercise in our day! We love our Swimming Fridays tradition!

**Fundraising Friday**
This week I have another super easy way to help the school out. Box Tops makes it easy to earn money for your school. You purchase items that have box tops, create a box tops account on the app and then scan your receipt! That’s it! No more saving the pieces and bringing them in to school. Just scan your receipt with the app.
If you have questions please reach out!
Thanks!
